MONDAY

Chair Yoga In Person & On Zoom         Sanskrit: "Prajna"=wisdom

w/ Veronica [9:30 - 11:00am]
-Undaunted Beginner-

Need to work on balance, strengthening and grounding?
Now you can choose between the camaraderie of a group class and the convenience of staying home! A chair replaces the traditional yoga mat and a block for support. We focus on posture in both sitting and standing and how that leads the body to its intuitive wisdom of  balance and mobility. Ideal for seniors but applicable to everyone.

This class is offered free of charge - just follow the link below or show up at the Kodiak Senior Center on Mondays at 9:30am.

Note: On any holiday that the Senior Center is closed, we will still have Chair Yoga through Zoom.

Beginning Yoga w/Sam                Sanskrit: "Parinama"= change/transformation

  [4:30 - 5:30 pm]
-Beginner-

Here is your opportunity to use fall and winter time to recharge, reset and transform the body with no previous yoga experience required. These low risk poses offer deep benefits and like any activity, the benefits last longer if the poses become a habit. This class will help you move toward good habits for your body whether you are new to yoga or returning after a long hiatus or just want something different.
Join us for the low risk poses warm up which will organically become a slow flow and end with a guided relaxation, leading you into one of the most popular yoga poses-Shivasana, "Final Relaxation Pose".

"The objective of this class is for you to feel awesome when we are done!" - Sam

TUESDAY

Good Morning Yoga                            Sanskrit: "Kritajna"=grateful

w/ Veronica [9:30 - 11:00am]
-Beginner-

Class begins with Qi Gong exercises that consist of simple, gentle movements repeated several times and performed in a sequence. These sequences are designed to allow the energy to move through the body, reducing stiffness which creates stagnacy and disease.

The theme of each class is then internalized through a 20 minute guided meditation followed by yoga poses that progress from the floor to standing balancing poses such as "Tree"(Vrkasana) and Eagle ("Garudasana"). The focus is to be grateful for the things we can  do and patient with what we can't.

The goal of the class is to destress busy minds and untangle tight bodies.

Hot Relax                                           Sanskrit: "Passadhi"=tranquility/calm

w/ Veronica [5:15 - 6:45pm]
-No experience necessary

This class combines slow, simple stretches with mind/body integration to create a meditative experience. The class is done 90% lying on the floor with multiple props to create optimal comfort in a warm(75-80 degree) room with soft lighting.

The intention is to evoke the Relaxation Response which is defined as "a physical state of deep calm that changes a person's physical and emotional responses to stress". No yoga experience necessary. Just a willingness to "let go".

"Fascia Flow"                        Sanskrit: "Varivoda"=space/freedom/relief

w/ Veronica [7:30 - 8:30pm]
-No experience necessary

Join us for this light hearted class that combines gentle yoga flow and fascia rolling.

"Fascia is a thin casing of connective tissue that surrounds and holds every organ, blood vessel, bone, nerve fiber and muscle in place. The tissue does more than provide internal structure; fascia has nerves that make it almost as sensitive as skin. When stressed, it tightens up." [www.hopkinsmedicine.org]

WEDNESDAY

108 Sun Salutations                              Sanskrit: "Dakshinayan" =Winter Solstice

w/Veronica [6:30pm]

Come together to connect with this transitional time of the year by finding the rhythm and strength of your body and mind to move through 108 Sun Salutations. The symbolic meaning of the numbers "1-0-8" will be discussed as well as the mental and physical strategies to get through 108 yoga poses. We will work with variations in pace and modifications as well as an emphasis on grounding your energy between sets in order to create a positive mind set. All the qualities we need to face the coming winter months.

This experience is offered FREE of charge. We simply ask that you sign up to accommodate the size of the studio.

NOTE: This class is ONLY on WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 18

THURSDAY

Good Morning Yoga                                Sanskrit: "Kritajna"=grateful

w/ Veronica [9:30 - 11:00am]
-Beginner-

This class follows the same guidelines as Tuesday's class and just like Tuesday's class the poses gently change every week while still maintaining slow mindful movement that gradually transitions from floor to seated to standing postures. The theme of each class is internalized through a 20 minute guided meditation at the beginning. This class is designed to destress busy minds and untangle tight bodies. As on Tuesday we practice being grateful for what we can can do and patient with what we can't.

Intro to Hot Flow           Sanskrit: "Saurya"=courage ("saur" root refers to the sun)

w/Veronica [5:30 - 6:45pm]
-Beginner-

Starting something new takes courage. This class is similar to Monday night's Beginning Yoga class except it adds the element of heat (85-90 degrees). The intention behind adding heat to a yoga class is the same as wrapping a heating pad around a body part that is tight- you want to relax the muscle to release the tension. In a heated room the entire body is targeted to relax. We gradually introduce low impact movements to encourage mobility throughout the body. By the end of class we connect the movements to create a "slow flow" then enjoy the results of our efforts with a resting pose, lying down.

Could be just what you need after a long day.

Night Owl Yoga                                      Sanskrit: "Dharana"=concentration

w/ Veronica [7:30 - 9:00pm]

-Ambitious Beginner/Intermediate-

The room is heated anywhere from 90-98 degrees to begin the detoxification process the minute you lay down your yoga mat. 26 poses individually held for 30 seconds to one minute and two breathing techniques, one at the beginning and one at the end, are interspersed with short sunsalutation flows between sections of the standing and floor poses. This style demands and therefore develops concentration, determination and mobility.

FRIDAY

SATURDAY

G.O.A.T. [G.ood O.ld A.erobic T.raining]            Sanskrit:"Utsaha"=strength,resolution,endurance

w/ Veronica [09:00- 09:45am]

-No experience necessary, but a base level of endurance is helpful-

This class revolves around "yang" style energy. This means it is designed to require willful effort and generate heat. Movements begin with a classic and then a Pilates style core warmup to strengthen the entire torso, abs and back then moves on to a HIIT style workout with a rotating variety of equipment including weights, sliding disks and bands. This class pairs very well with the healing and recovery focus of Self Care Foundations which occurs right after.

Work hard-Recover well.

Self Care Foundations             Sanskrit:"Sukha"=a good fit/comfortable

w/ Veronica [10:00- 11:15am]

-No experience necessary-

This class introduces multiple tools to use to maintain a healthy relationship with your body. During this time participants will experience a sampling from classes offered throughout the week at the studio. Areas covered include the different yogic breathing techniques for calming and energizing; fascia rolling for releasing muscle tension; introductions to Qi Gong, slow flow and meditation. If you have ever had questions about the many ways to help your body and mind rebound from the stresses of daily life, then this class is a good fit for you!
